Team Origin, honored with the Best Overall award, impressed judges with their AI system that transforms trusted data into decision-ready, fully cited briefs, emphasizing transparency which is a critical component in today's data-driven landscape. For Best Domain Impact, Team GoCools presented a compelling "designing for failure" methodology, enabling teams to proactively identify risks and make more informed decisions, significantly enhancing project resilience and strategic planning.Meanwhile, Best Technical Execution went to Team Mechy AI for their sophisticated "trust-but-verify" AI system, which integrates human-in-the-loop checks to ensure powerful, transparent, and reliably governed outputs. This approach highlights the growing importance of human oversight and accountability in complex AI deployments.

Finally, the Audience Favorite, Team Akili Grid, captured the virtual community's vote by developing a multi-agent AI system designed to power Virtual Net Metering (VNM) and peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading for Umeme Sense. Capitalizing on Kenya's Open Access and Bulk Supply regulations, Akili Grid converts complex grid telemetry into actionable insights and automated balancing actions across a decentralized architecture. The platform coordinates six specialized AI agents:

  • Meter Data Management Agent: Ingests, validates, and streams bidirectional 15-minute interval data from Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
  • Prediction Agent: Uses machine learning models to forecast rolling 24-hour solar generation yields and consumer demand profiles.
  • Energy Allocation & Dispatch Agent: Optimizes virtual P2P balance matrices to route excess solar credits using 15-minute netting windows.
  • Grid Safety Agent: Acts as an automated safety circuit breaker, monitoring real-time line voltage, power factor, and transformer limits to trigger rapid power curtailment when necessary.
  • Billing Agent: Manages a virtual ledger engine that processes wheeling charges, Time-of-Use (TOU) tariffs, and power factor penalty models to generate automated accounting outputs.
  • RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) Agent: Provides an LLM-driven interface to answer natural language query requests regarding billing changes and VNM compliance rules.
